Hills aren't hard, Sydney needs crosswinds!!!

Came across this impressive video via

After the clubs ride yesterday in the Southern Highlands, I'm feeling a little soft.
We only covered 135km, 2200m of climbing and 1.5hrs of rain.

We really just needed to ride around Calga with crosswinds like this!

Neil Matthews is riding from Sydney to Surfers to raise funds for Father Chris Riley’s Youth off the Streets (YOTS) programme

I am about to embark again on an epic bike ride from Sydney to Surfers to raise money for disadvantaged kids, many of whom live on the streets. This is the fourth time I’ve done this ride, and I’m pleased to say I’ve raised over $10,000 to date.

I need your help.

Beauie Worlds this Sunday Mar 13

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Beauie Worlds takes off again this Sunday.

Following the turn out for the Clash of the Titans last round I am sure most riders will have found some form after the standard of racing on display.

On a secondary note, I remember seeing alot of carbon (wheels) on display so perhaps those riders were still looking for their form - turning to an equipment advantage???

NSCC Junior takes 2 State Titles

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The NSW State Track Titles were held in Dubbo over the weekend with NSCC's juniors dominating their events.

There was a massive field for U11's (21 riders)… the Jones' got there a little late so Ashlee was still having a bigger bike fitted for her so was unable to warm up for her event.

LACC were kind enough to lend her a bigger bike for the event as she must have grown out of her 24inch bike on the long drive out west to Dubbo.

Southern Highlands Blinder - March 27

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

In anticipation of the upcoming open racing season and just to get fit and enjoy some amazing views we are going to the Southern Highlands for a day of solid riding.

The ride is rated medium to hard, however, this is due to the terrain. The hills will provide an opportunity to burst a lung while the flats will be a good opportunity to ride together and enjoy the club spirit.

The event is listed on the club calendar

Sun 27 March 2011

5:30am - Turramurra Shops car park. Drive to Bowral

Clash of the Titans - Report

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Undeniably the race of the year at Beauie Worlds this morning. Billed as the Clash of the Titans it was incredible to see all of northern sydneys “racing” clubs represented in strong numbers.

Central Coast sent nearly 20 riders down across all grades landing at least 1 rider on every podium. Manly Warringah also rounded up the troops sending up a 15+ strong squadra of riders focussed on upsetting the championship.

NSCC's Mike Blewitt has spent the last 12 months working tirelessy on a major dream he's had since taking part in his first Marathon MTB race.

After making the switch to NSCC over 12months ago, he has enjoyed the support of the road racing club travelling and competing in local and state open road races and has now used it as a stepping stone to bigger and better things like joining forces with UK rider Richard Tyler and launching their own global website

Phil Nelsons TDU 2011

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

A short blog by NSCC's Phil Nelson following the last few days of the 2011 TDU in Adelaide. A great little snapshot of what the crew got up to in South Aus.

We had a good ride on Saturday to Willunga, the guys didn't want to take that
road through Bakers Gully so we went the long way but it was a good ride anyway.

Willunga hill was great, probably one of the best views of the race we had. On
the way back a lot of the pros were riding back too and there were some big
bunches, we sat behind Rogers and then some Lampre boys and then Greipel, it was

Beauie Worlds Feb 13 Report

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

With a good dose of rain yesterday, it was a bit hit and miss as to whether Beauie would go ahead this morning.

The rain stopped so Beauie went ahead with many riders admitting defeat at the hands of mother nature the night before and failing to set alarms.

Justin 'Maddog' Morris fell victim to this and perhaps through outright arrogance chose not to defend the title for the "Crown of Beaumont" awarded to the current rider with the most consecutive Beauie Worlds wins - Maddog currently holds at 4.

Road User Etiquette

Now that schools back and the roads are choking at their usual smokers artery thickness this was a very timely article which was brought to our attention by Mr Jaggad Sportwear - NSCC member Graeme Evans. Some very valid points relating to not just rider etiquette but road user etiquette too.

New to bunch cycling? Have a read of the NSCC Guide to Rider Etiquette.

Pierres Loyalty Card

At long last, our persistent nagging must have been heard by those at the top of the barista chain.

As we tapped along the Pacific Hwy after our Weekday ride to Terry Hills this morning and rolled up at Pierres, I unassumingly unbuckled my helmet, spared my bike any more torture and layed it gently against the fencing surrounding Pierres Patisserie and made my way inside for "the usual thanks Jack" (reg skim cap).

However this was not to be any regular morning...

Beauie Worlds Jan 30, 2011

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Beauie Worlds titles are not won easily and NSCC Sharkies Moits rider Chris "Sally Stompin" Williams is becoming all too familiar with what it takes to win at Mt Kuring Gai.

With around 60+ riders turning up on the day, many took to the line in B Grade and C Grade with A Grade looking pretty skint in comparison.

A Grade

16 riders took to the A Grade start in comparison with around 28 in B Grade.

Pics from El Presidente & Calendar events

What an awesome bunch on Saturday for El Presidente! Obviously the weather helps but that was one of the biggest bunches I've seen in quite a while and everyone handled themselves very well. Often, larger bunches tend to result in poor bunch formation and road spread but I think we did well.

It was great to have some of the elite guys like Sally Sit-On come out too to liven up the Bobbo assault and the Nth Turramurra sprint and also a few of the not so regulars come out and have a crack.

Australia Day Ride Report

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Australia Day rolls around once a year but the Ettalong Loop Ride is one you should seriously consider doing more often.

With a public holiday, all the time in the world and a favourable weather forecast, some of the NSCC faithful celebrated Australia Day in style.

A good bunch of approx 16-20 rolled out with the loop heading north up Pacific Hwy, through Calga and then a right turn into the Somersby valley. Was great to see Dan Moit harden up for the full loop too - spurred on by his old man who also committed to the days epic and Kathy Warne brought some "femme" to the bunch.

Motor Pacing

Unfortunately there was a crash in C grade on the final lap which occurred as a few chasers tried to pass B Grade in last effort to catch the few up the road. The result was riders everywhere and B grade split. Fortunately there was no serious injuries, Harrison having x Rays but all clear and another rider with a dislocated shoulder.
