NSCC ladies throw a leg over and get a feel for the bunch

Today saw the inaugural "Ladies Day" ride hosted by NSCC under the guidance of Neil Matthews and the ever effervescent Womens coordinator, Kim Austin.

An initiative conjured up by Neil and a few other members at the recent Grafton to Inverell race, this was the opportunity for the wives and girlfriends of NSCC's members to come and try a ride with a relaxed bunch in a safe and quiet environment.

Rolling out at 7am was a success with beautiful sunshine and great sized bunch of 16 riders. An even split of men and women allowed riders to partner up and share their knowledge and keep the bunch together for our ride up Galston Road.

Turning right up Somerville Road the bunch remained together with one or two of the girls showing some great commitment on their big steel mountain bikes. We all have to start somewhere and these girls proved that riding is about doing it for the fun of it, rather than worrying what you're doing it on!

16 riders - 8 men & 8 women (most who were first timers) turned up to get a taste of bunch riding with NSCC

We rode together out and back on Somerville Road with only a handful of cars seen during the 1 hour loop.

Upon returning to Hornsby for breakfast, Kim and Sue spent some time adjusting hair and makeup (ok, maybe not make up) just in case Alejandro, the spanish waiter, cast en eye in their direction.

The girls let down their hair at the coffee shop back in Hornsby

After a vocal Happy Birthday song for Leighanne Sietsma the crew hooked in for French Toast, Bacon and Eggs and anything else the menu offered. All in all this was a great day out for the new comers and a way to demonstrate the cycling culture NSCC members enjoy so much.

A big thanks to Neil Matthews and Kim Austin for coordinating this great initiative. Expect to see a post xmas ride appear on the calendar some time soon.

Well done and thank you to both the organisers and participants.
Nic had a great time and enjoyed meeting & riding with all the people I talk about week in, week out.
The only downside to the whole event is the likely cost to my hip pocket: one carbon road bike to replace the "big steel mountain bike". Thank you Mr Matthews... Eye-wink

I echo your words, in particular about the MTB being traded in for a Roadie...apparently we are going to go looking for bikes a little later!

Thanks El Presidente for your support and for giving Deb back her wheels. Perfect weather and route. Thank you to those who made the effort to come along. It was good to meet some new faces and see some come out of the woodwork. Social and fun. Well done boys!

One carbon road bike ordered... Laughing out loud

EDIT: and one NSCC membership taken, out of course!
