Folks here is a Christmas message on behalf of the club committee - all members will receive this via a Red and Black email too.

On behalf of the NSCC Committee we want to wish all our members a very happy and safe Xmas and New Year.

In recent weeks the cycling community has been saddened by serious injury and loss of life in cycling tragedies, and it's a reminder to us all that we need to be conscious of safety in this wonderful sport of ours.

This week NSCC member, and Chair of Cycling NSW Peter Beaumont, issued a very appropriate open letter to the Premier of NSW, to help raise public awareness of cyclists on the road to minimise the chances of tragic accidents.

Here in our own club we have a large member base which is evenly split between racing and non-racing members. We have been running skills sessions for racing members in 2016 and in 2017 we feel its timely to run skills and awareness sessions for non-racing members, to better equip riders to deal with unexpected situations on the road.

More news to follow on this.

A quick recap on 2016 and a glimpse of some of the initiatives from the committee in 2017 to continue to add benefit to all members:

Elite Rider Development
- we launched the Emerging Elite Development Squad, under the directorship of club stalwart Justin Morris, a former world pro tour rider
- the "Dog Squad" had incredible race results across NSW and we now have other cycling clubs looking to follow our example in building racing talent with similar programs
- we also saw squad members such as Tom Green, securing contracts with NRS race teams like GPM Stultz, and we understand other squad members may also be riding NRS next year
- in 2017 the squad will evolve and be renamed the Elite Development Squad
We would also like to acknowledge Junior Academy Director Helmut Vetisch who has taught and developed all these Dog Squad riders as juniors. Helmut's dedication has given kids the chance to step up to senior racing

Battle of the Bridge Race Series
- in 2016 NSCC won the 4-club series over SuVelo, Manly Warringah and Randwick Botany
- there was a very friendly and healthy rivalry between the clubs and social media was a buzz with friendly banter
- this race series has seen a rejuvenation of inter-club racing, as is popular in Europe, and will expanded in 2017 to include other clubs and also a race series against other regions

Beaumont Road (Beauie) Racing
- this year was arguably the best ever at Beauie in terms of participation and race quality
- the season highlight was the annual Robert Hodgson Memorial Race which has now become the premier crit race in Sydney and this year won by Reece Robinson from GPM
- Beauie is run by so many selfless volunteers; too many to name all
- but special mention goes out to Craig Stevens, George Mouyahet and Neil Aldridge who are always there every week and give thousands of hours each year

Club Kit
- Kitmesiter Matt Garnon has worked tirelessly to keep kit supply up and this year introduced a new Capo super corsa kit for members
- a reminder that we supply kit below cost as a benefit to members, to recognise your commitment to the club
- so members get top quality Italian kit at a fraction of what other clubs charge and you would pay in retail
- the kit proudly carries the names of paying sponsors and we thank them for their commitment
MOITS, THORNLEIGH AUTOBODY, BRIDGES FINANCIAL, SNAP-ON TOOLS and YSCO GEOMATICS

Social Media and New Website
- the committee is in the process of commissioning a new social media platform which will include website re-design to make our social media (Web, Facebook, Instagram etc) more accessible to members
- we also plan to have a social media site specifically for members to communicate with each re other bunch rides, social events etc

Club Sportif Rides and Social Events
- in 2017 we will be organising Sportif rides specifically for non-racing members; locations and venues to be announced
- many members also expressed a desire for organised social events (TDF nights etc), so we will look to arrange these with member help

2017 Membership Renewal
- a reminder to renew your 2017 membership through the Cycling NSW or Cycling Australia website link
- each member would have received an email with a link to the renewal site
Organised Bunch Rides
- each week club members organise a series of rides
- on Saturdays we have El Presidente, La Reve and Guns'n'Roses rides
- Tuesday is the Brooklyn Dash
- Wednesday is Dawn Patrol
- Thursday is FOT race-pace ride
- Sunday is Churches ride
All of these are member-driven and now part of the club fabric where we ride together and then have coffee with like-minded people

2017 Open Committee Meetings
- the club committee meets approx every 6 weeks to ensure the smooth running of the club
- in 2017 we will open up selected committee meetings for any member to join and hear first hand what the committee does
- this will also be an opportunity for members to interact with the committee and provide input

The committee is proud to work on behalf of members to keep this great club at the forefront of NSW cycling.
