BUNCH RIDE
DETAILS

el presidente

6:10am @ Pearce’s Corner
6:20am @ Hornsby Pool
saturday mornings

This is the club’s flagship ride and is considered the fastest of the clubs sanctioned Saturday morning rides. The ride commences at Pearces Corner at 6:10AM and passes Hornsby Pool about 6:15 – 6:20am where it picks up another group of riders. The  ride then descends through Bobbin Head, through St Ives and out to Terrey Hills. From Terrey Hills turn off some riders choose to turn left to hook up with the Le Reve rider, most head down through Akuna Bay and then back up to the top. We wait to regroup then head swiftly back to Pierres Coffee shop at Turramurra at approx 8.20am where we meet up with the riders from Le Reve. After the morning coffee there are two choices to get back to Hornsby, some riders who are short of time usually head straight up the highway to Hornsby, others will descend through Bobbin Head one more time before heading back to Hornsby.

Attire: Club kit is expected to be worn on this ride.

Le Rêve (aka The Dream Ride)

6:20AM (6:50am in June, July, August)
Saturday mornings’
Hornsby Pool

This ride is intended to be the stepping stone to El Presidente, and is intended for riders that are new to riding in groups or are not quite ready to take on the full El Presidente pace. Meet at the Hornsby Pool Bus Shelter for the 6.20am departure (6:50am in winter months). Ride will follow the same route as El Presidente without the descent into Akuna but rather out and back to  Terry Hills Golf Course and then back to Turramurra, meeting the El Presidente bunches for coffee at Pierres about 8.00am (8:30am in Winter).

*Please check the calendar for seasonal time adjustments.

Attire: Club kit is expected to be worn on this ride, however if you are new and want to check out what it is all about then come down and come for a ride with us – no club kit is necessary for your first few rides.

Meet at Hornsby Pool 6.30am (7:00am in June, July and August). Bunch will follow route of El Presidente but turn at Terry Hills underpass and head back to Turramurra meeting the El Presidente bunch for coffee at Pierres about 8.30am.

Sunday Funday

7:00AM
Sunday morning
Hookhams Service Station

The Sunday Funday ride starts off at Hookhams Service Station on Sunday mornings. It is a pretty simple route, we head up the Pacific Highway and turn down towards Brooklyn. Coffee stop is at the cafe in Brooklyn and then head back to Hornsby post coffee stop. Some individuals may chooose to peel off at Berowra to go through the two gorges (Berowra and Galston) on the return but the majority typically head straight back home.  This ride is considered a social no drop ride where all riders will wait at the top of climbs and proceed as a group. The purpose of this ride is definitely recovery/social – some may have a bit of a hit out from the Brooklyn turnoff to the coffee stop but that is where the big watts end.

Attire: Club kit not necessary.

the dash

6:00pm
tuesday evenings
Hookhams Corner

This ride is an old Hornsby Cycles ride that many NSCC members attend. It is not an NSCC-organised ride. Visit ‘The Dash’ Facebook group for latest information on this ride.

The Dash leaves from Hookhams Corner in Hornsby at 6:00pm sharp. The ride goes out to Brooklyn Bridge and back to Hookhams Corner (approx 45km) and is a no drop ride on the way out. The group usually splits up on the climb back up Brooklyn, riders are encouraged to climb within their limits and all riders regroup at the top of the Brooklyn climb outside Austral Water Gardens. From Austral gardens the group normally splits into two groups with a faster group going ahead. If you are in the faster group, this is considered a drop ride so bring your legs. A great midweek ride that is quick to complete but also provides a solid workout for those who want it. Please bring front and rear lights in the winter months as we don’t return until around 7:30pm.  As a reminder, rear lights should be kept on solid mode (not flashing).

As an added extra, this ride is followed by Pizza and a drop of your finest Red at Bambinos in Hornsby on 2nd and 5th Tuesdays of the month. NB: BYO Red Wine.

A slightly slower group leaves Hookhams at 6:00pm and follows the same route with an average speed of around 30kph.

Attire: No club kit is required for this ride, however you will notice that there is a specific “Dash” kit that was purchased as a one off.

Roseville RSL Pacific Highway
6:20AM
Pearce’s Corner

This fast bunch has been going since the 60’s and actually leaves Roseville at 6am and goes up the Pacific Hwy arriving at Pearce’s Corner about 6:20am.

In summer the bunch can get as large as 60 riders. Most NSCC riders meet the Dawnie at Pearces corner and then it is a fast pace through Hornsby and then Bobbin Head.

Please note that Dawn Patrol is not an NSCC-organised ride but we have supported it since its inception. NSCC CovidSafe precautions are not in place on this ride.

Then out along Mona Vale Rd through St Ives to the top of McCarrs Creek Rd. Down through Church Point and through all the beaches ending in Manly.

Most NSCC riders turn out to the Terry Hills Country Club and then back to Turramurra for coffee

St Leonards Espresso (aka FOT)

6:10AM
Thursday morning
pearce’s corner

A

A small bunch of NSCC riders can usually be found leaving Pearce’s Corner at 6:10am for the St Leonards Espresso Ride. The ride heads down the Pacific Hwy to Turramurra, then left into Kuring-gai Ave and Pentecost St through to Mona Vale Road. We then turn onto McCarrs creek road and head out through Church Point. From Church Point, it is south along Pittwater Road to the Spit Bridge, and then through the back streets through Cremorne to Crows Nest for coffee and breakfast. After breakfast, there are usually riders heading to the city, North Ryde and some back to Hornsby.

A ‘B’ group (aka the ‘Kevpetto’) will occasionally leave from Pearces at 6am for riders who don’t feel up to the normal scorching pace. This is usually still a fast ride (32kph+) but is less ferocious up the bergs. This isn’t a regular group however, so if you turn up at 6am and no one’s at Pearces, either set out on your own or try and hold on to the 6.10 group.

NB: This is considered a drop ride and is fast, it is not for the faint of heart but if you want some mid-week intensity then this is where you can get it!

Attire: Wear whatever you like. Race cut is best as you’ll need every aero gain you can get!

Riders are encouraged to wear full club kit and represent the club in a safe and positive manner during all club rides.
riding etiquette

There are no official sanctioned club run training rides due to possible liability issues for the club.

However there are several rides where a number of cyclists turn up regularly and ride in a group. Anyone is most welcome to join these bunches but please be aware that you will be responsible for your own safety when riding.

Bring lights if needed and your common sense. Riders in bunches will always have the safety of every member in the bunch as a main concern but ultimately the club will not accept any responsibility for any accidents that may occur.
